Two-year-old girl attacked by coyote in Southern California park

A 2-year-old girl was attacked by a coyote at a park in Southern California on Thursday, police said.

The young girl was attacked at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley around 8:30 p.m.,  the Fountain Valley Police Department said.

The child was taken to an area hospital where she is being treated for her injuries, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife told KTLA.

The attack was not immediately reported to authorities and the coyote was not immediately located.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) are currently in the area working to euthanize the coyote, according to police.

“The community is encouraged to continue to haze coyotes and keep small children and pets under close supervision,” cops said in a press release.
