Peter Crouch has shown singer Camila Cabello his signature ‘robot’ dance at the Stade de France ahead of the Champions League final – and the pop star was impressed enough to invite him to teach hundreds of dancers how to replicate his moves.

Former Liverpool striker Crouch could not resist producing his party trick for the chart-topper who will perform before the Reds face Real Madrid, moving his arms in familiar fashion as the pair overlooked the pitch at the stadium where the showpiece will be held on Saturday.

In a clip shared by BT Sport, Crouch told Cabello: ‘I’m not sure if you’re across it but I invented the “robot” in the UK.

‘I know lots of people in New York started it but I brought it to the mainstream UK. It’s all about body-popping and locking. I am incredible at it.’

The Champions League finalist with Liverpool in 2007 then asked Cabello whether she preferred a ‘Latin flavour’ to her dance routines.

Cabello said: ‘Sounds like it’s a big deal. I feel like I won’t be as good because you are, like, twice my height.’

Crouch has become synonymous with the mechanical move which he used to celebrate goals during his 21-year career, taking in clubs including Tottenham and Aston Villa and scoring 22 times in 42 appearances for England between 2005 and 2010.

The pundit and presenter has claimed he first brought out the ‘robot’ after drinking at a party held by former England captain David Beckham ahead of the 2006 World Cup.

Cabello will be entertaining the crowd at the official opening ceremony 10 minutes before the final, telling Crouch that she had an army of dancers he could inspire.

The Cuban American told Crouch: ‘There are at least 300 dancers. It’s crazy. You should teach them all the “robot”. That was bettter than I thought that would be.’

The ‘robot’ is thought to have origins stretching as far back as 1920s miming, although it was popularised on a superstar scale when Michael Jackson began to perform it with the Jackson 5 and as a solo artist around 50 years later.
