World Cup-winning Brazil captain Cafu insisted that Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is ‘one of the best right-backs in the world’ and revealed the full-back’s style remind him of his own.

Alexander-Arnold has impressed since establishing himself as a mainstay of Jurgen Klopp’s side, winning the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and Carabao Cup at the age of 23.

The defender is in the hunt for trophies once again this term as the Reds look to add the Premier League and Champions League to the two domestic cups they have already secured in a historic quest for the quadruple.

Cafu revealed he has been impressed with the England international’s displays this season and has been monitoring his progress throughout his Anfield career.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Cafu said: ‘I have been following Alexander-Arnold and the campaign he has had at Liverpool. His progress over the last few years has been amazing and for sure is one of the best right-backs in the world.

‘He is young, strong and has developed hugely considering his age. He also has a lot of experience and I see a lot of similarities between him and myself.

‘We both had a will and commitment to attack, to go forward and have the boldness to shoot and to put the crosses in. The diagonal movements he makes on the pitch are also similar to what I was making as a player.’

The next week will decide if Klopp’s side are successful in achieving the quadruple – a feat no English team has achieved before.

However, they face a tough challenge starting on Sunday as they need Manchester City to drop points and a result against Wolves on the final day of the season to regain the Premier League title.

Liverpool are currently on point behind Pep Guardiola’s side, who face Aston Villa on Sunday, managed by Reds legend Steven Gerrard.

The Reds then head to Paris to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 28.
