For the past few weeks, 22 million people across England, Scotland and Wales have had an unpleasant shock lurking in their inboxes and on their doormats, as their energy suppliers have laid out their future energy costs. For a home with typical energy consumption, annual bills will jump by 54 per cent to £1971 from 1 April under a regulated price cap.
