Adrien Rabiot was lucky to escape a red card after his horror challenge on Samuel Chukwueze, during Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Villareal.

The French midfielder went crashing into his opponent midway through the second half, with referee Daniel Siebert only deeming the challenge worthy of a yellow card despite it’s dangerous nature.

Even after Dusan Vlahovic scoring the opening goal of the game after 31 seconds, Rabiot’s tackle will steal some of the headlines due to it’s reckless nature.

The former Fiorentina striker scored inside the first minute of his Champions League debut for Juventus before Dani Parejo levelled for the hosts.

Rabiot’s challenge was a moment of madness in the game, with players and fans in disbelief that he was allowed to continue in the game.

Speaking after the game on BT Sport, Martin Keown said: ‘I think that’s a red, he’s just gone in with no intent to win the ball.

‘He’s just gone in to take his opponent out, it’s high, reckless, no regard for his opponent.’

Dusan Vlahovic, who inherited the No. 7 shirt number from Cristiano Ronaldo, gave Massimiliano Allegri’s side the lead in the first minute of their game against Villareal.

Vlahovic received a ball over the top of the Spanish defence, chested it down neatly, before firing a shot with his weaker right foot across goal and into the bottom corner.

His finish was trademark for any top striker – and earned the Serb the record for the fastest goal ever scored in the competition.
