It was handed to her by Churchill’s daughter Lady Mary Soames as a thank you gift for reading to Clementine.
An astonished Ronnie said: “So your great aunt read to Clementine when she lost her sight. Why was she chosen to read to Clementine?”
The guest said her great aunt had a “really nice” voice which was the likely reason she was chosen by the Churchill family.
Clementine was married to Churchill for 54 years and they had five children together, one of whom died aged two from sepsis.
