Fox news reporter Jacqui Heinrich asked the President: “Why are you waiting on Putin to make the first move, sir?”
Biden simply qipped back: “What a stupid question.”
The exchange comes as Republicans have slammed Biden’s response to the crisis labelling it “a green light for Putin”.
Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, described the President’s policy as “deeply troubling and dangerous”.
During a press conference on Wednesday Biden failed to clearly explain how his administration would respond to a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
He said: “Russia will be held accountable if it invades.
“It’s one thing if it’s a minor incursion and then we end up having a fight about what to do and not do, et cetera.
“But if they actually do what they’re capable of doing with the forces amassed on the border, it is going to be a disaster for Russia if they further invade Ukraine.”

“Just as there are no minor casualties and little grief from the loss of loved ones.”
Russian officials say that they have no intention of invading Ukraine despite the deployment of 100,000 troops close to the border.
