‘It’s all about profit!’ Drivers react with fury to 2030 fuel ban – ‘madness’

Drivers across the UK don’t believe the Government’s ban on the sale of all new petrol and diesel cars by the end of the decade is really about protecting the environment, with many convinced the measures are simply a way to profit from billions being ploughed into climate change.

After Express.co.uk published a run down of key points about the 2030 ban, readers commented in their hundreds to outline not just their beliefs about the possible true motives but also to vent their anger at the Government.

Some promised never to vote Conservative again due to the ban while others instead laid the blame at the feet of people who have already bought electric vehicles (EVs).

Commenter ‘Malc, Cheshire’ wrote: “EV’s DO produce emissions – they just do it at the power stations instead of on the roads. How the government will fudge the emission levels for EV’s remains to be seen, (but they will)…”

‘Stronsay213’ replied: “Maybe we should vote for someone to nip this lunacy in the bud?”

And ‘Imus Gerrapis’ declared: “They are replacing one problem with an insurmountable one.

“Infrastructure, keeping pace with technology, massive unemployment due to redundancy, loss of tax revenue, the list is endless. You have to wonder sometimes if there is ANYONE in government with any foresight or a brain.

“Yes, in less than a century we have used a major amount of the oil resource. That alone needs urgent attention.

“But you can’t do it by mandate. Especially by people who barely understand the problem in first place. There needs to be consultation and planning and not by special interest groups or lobbyists.”
