Naga Munchetty inundated with support as she posts video from hospital bed

Naga Munchetty, 46, has been called a “superstar” by social media users for her latest Instagram post. The BBC Breakfast presenter posted a video of herself giving blood, while shaking in fear.

In view of her 51,500 Instagram followers, Naga posted the video, in which she can be seen to be clearly very nervous.

Shaking, she said: “Hello it is that time again – buttock clenching, leg raising, arm squeezing – giving blood today.

“I am now with my lovely friend Russ who is now used to my skinny veins and makes it absolutely painless.

“I will be up and about after this with my day. So just know, if you want to give blood, you are doing a great thing.”

Naga added: “I’ll be done. If you can give blood, if you want to give blood, you are doing a good thing. Anyway, see you on BBC Breakfast.”

She captioned the video: “Just done this @givebloodnhs with one of my favourite blood takers @willflanders.

“And a record time for me of 5 mins 21 secs for approx 0.5l. Woo hoo! X.” (sic)

Social media users took to the comments to congratulate the BBC Breakfast presenter for doing her bit for the NHS.

“I have fortnightly infusions of antibody replacement therapy as I can’t produce my own antibodies.

“Ultimately the infusions keep me in the classroom teaching, which is my passion. Always so grateful for anyone who gives their time to donate blood. Xx.”

Naga opened up on her radio show on Tuesday that she will not be taking on a New Year’s trend.

The BBC broadcaster was discussing people trying out skateboarding as she admitted she was too concerned about injury.

Naga presents a morning news show on BBC Radio 5 Live Monday to Wednesday from 11am until 1pm.

She said: “You know we’ve talked about New Year’s resolutions, we always do at this time of year.

“What about taking up skateboarding? What about taking up skateboarding in middle age?

Naga continued: “Have you tried it or are you like me and think, ‘No way’.

“I’m all up for looking ridiculous at times and trying new things. But I just know it would be a recipe for disaster so I would really worry about being injured.”
