Ken Rosenthal’s exit from MLB Network made big waves in the baseball world.
As The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported on Monday, the venerable MLB insider is out at the league’s television network ostensibly over previous criticism of commissioner Rob Manfred.
Noah Syndergaard, the former Met who signed with the Angels this offseason, used a meme on Twitter from the movie “Dodgeball,” in which Jason Bateman’s Pepper Brooks tells Gary Cole’s Cotton McKnight, “That’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for him,” as a way to express his skepticism with MLB Network’s decision.
Ken Singleton, the former three-time All-Star who retired from YES Network in 2021, also was displeased with the news.
“Ken Rosenthal has been an excellent writer and reporter on all things baseball since covering the Orioles years ago in Baltimore,” Singleton tweeted. “For the MLB Network to let him go is terribly shortsighted and reduces the credibility of the whole product.”
“In conclusion: MLB Network runs a puppet show,” tweeted Gary Sheffield Jr., son of the former MLB star who is a contributor at the website OutKick.
The reactions from Syndergaard, Singleton, and Sheffield Jr. seemed to sum up the consensus response to the news.
The good news for baseball fans is that Rosenthal remains in his roles covering the sport for FOX Sports and The Athletic.
