Jake Paul blasts ‘BULLS***’ speculation that his rematch with Tyron Woodley flopped with 65,000 PPV buys as YouTube star insists numbers ‘look positive’ despite it not being ‘my best business night’

  • Jake Paul has responded to speculation that his recent fight flopped on PPV
  • Paul, 24, defeated former UFC champion Tyron Woodley in devastating fashion
  • However, reports on Wednesday claimed the fight garnered just 65k PPV buys
  • Paul labelled these reports ‘bulls***’ and said the figures are ‘looking positive’
  • He admitted, though, that his Woodley rematch was not ‘my best business night’

Jake Paul has responded to speculation that his rematch against Tyron Woodley flopped on the box office, labelling reports of just 65,000 pay-per-view (PPV) buys as ‘bulls***’.

Paul, 24, took on Woodley for a second time earlier this month after the former UFC champion stepped in on short notice following Tommy Fury’s withdrawal from the bout with a rib injury.

The American novice knocked Woodley out in emphatic fashion in the sixth round of their eight-round contest, calling out UFC stars Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz for a boxing bout in 2022.

Paul offered Masvidal  $5million (£3.73m) to step in the ring with him, insisting that his box office figures means he can offer UFC stars a career-high payday.

However, reports on Wednesday suggested that Paul may not be the PPV draw he claims to be, with DAZN reporter Steven Muehlhausen suggesting that Paul v Woodley II achieved under 65,000 pay-per-view buys with Showtime, before online streams are taken into account.

The PPV was sold for a price of $59.99 (£44.73), so that would equate to a total figure of $3.89m (£2.9m).

Paul has since responded to these reports, labelling them ‘bulls***’. He said while the December 18 clash was not ‘my best business night’, the PPV figures are ‘looking positive’.

‘The PPV number rumors are bulls***,’ Paul wrote on Twitter. ‘First fight with Woodley we sold 500k plus. Numbers for this one are still rolling in but still looking positive.

‘Not my best business night. But remember, everyone wanted to see me vs. [Tommy] Fury and that’s what we sold.

‘Shout out to Showtime for riding with me and all the fighters on the card and Tyron for not being a b**** like most of these “fighters” are.’

MMA Fighting reports that the 500k buys Paul claims were garnered from his first fight with Woodley are accurate. That event was sold for $59.99 (£44.73) Stateside, equating to a grand total of $29,995,000 (£22,255,840).

The same outlet claims that the final figures for Paul v Woodley 2 will be lower than the first fight, but not to the extent that was suggested in Wednesday’s reports.

Digital sales are yet to be tallied and with Paul boasting a predominantly younger audience, most sales are expected to have been acquired through online streams. Showtime do not typically disclose their PPV sales figures.
