Putin hits back! Russia ramps up pressure on EU after Biden's gas threat crumbles

Russian troops have been seen amassing on the Ukrainian border, causing concern among NATO allies that a ground invasion of the sovereign nation was on the horizon.

It comes after Mr Putin annexed Crimea in 2014.

On December 16, NATO’s North Atlantic Council said it was “gravely concerned by the substantial, unprovoked, and unjustified Russian military build-up on the borders of Ukraine in recent months”.

It rejected Russia’s claims of provocation, and called on Mr Putin to “immediately de-escalate” the situation.
