Piers Morgan details 'disturbing' text from wife during her interview with James Hewitt

Piers Morgan, 56, has recalled the moment his then-girlfriend Celia Walden, 46, interviewed Princess Diana’s lover James Hewitt and sent the presenter a “disturbing” text message. The former household cavalry officer had relocated to Marbella and she met him for lunch in 2009.

Writing in his column for the Mail on Sunday under the heading “most disturbing text message”, Piers said: “Before we got married, my girlfriend Celia flew to Marbella to interview royal love rat James Hewitt.

“To convey some idea of my history with the old bounder, I once sent a knight on a white charger down to arrest him on behalf of the Daily Mirror for infringing the 1534 Act of Treason by having an affair with the wife of a future king.

“‘We’re on to our second bottle of Chablis,” read her text at 3pm.

“‘Getting on really well, and he’s just plucked a rose from the table arrangement, handed it to me and said, ‘Is it just me, or are flowers really rather sexual?’”

“I really minded about that. And he had rung me up 10 days before it arrived in the bookshops to tell me that there was nothing to worry about, and I believed him, stupidly.

“Then when it did arrive the first thing I did was rush down to talk to my children. And William produced a box of chocolates and said, `Mummy, I think you’ve been hurt. These are to make you smile again’.”

James, now 63, has had to repeatedly deny false rumours that he is Prince Harry’s father.
