Emma Raducanu tests positive for Covid and enters self isolation ahead of SPOTY awards

The Australian Open begins on January 17, and Raducanu is set to fly out soon after Christmas.

Speaking earlier this month after an exhibition match against Elena-Gabriella Ruse, Raducanu was accepting of the fact that she would be spending the festive period away from her family.

“I knew that playing tennis you’ll spend birthdays, you’ll spend Christmas and New Year not at home and I feel like for me it doesn’t matter,” Raducanu said.

“I’m there to train, I’m there to get better and then I fly to Australia. What’s going to be best for me is staying in the Middle East rather than flying seven hours back and forth.

“So I feel like it’s not a sacrifice and hopefully my Mum or Dad can come out maybe, and one of my best friends lives in Dubai so I can just see her.”
