Shell shareholders back plans to move HQ to Britain

Shell shareholders overwhelmingly back plans to move headquarters from the Netherlands to Britain

Shell shareholders have overwhelmingly backed plans to move its headquarters from the Netherlands to Britain.

The oil giant will simplify into one company based entirely in London, abandoning its dual structure and shifting its tax base to the UK in the process.

The changes, which are expected to include dropping ‘Royal Dutch’ from its name, won the support of 99.77 per cent of votes submitted before yesterday’s meeting.

Since 2005, Shell has been registered in the Netherlands for tax purposes and had its worldwide headquarters in The Hague.

The group says the shift to London will help it speed up efforts to turn into a renewables powerhouse.
