Jurgen Klopp's stance on reliable Liverpool ace proved right in Southampton win

The Scotland ace has been unable to match that outrageous figure – and hasn’t particularly looked like the player who registered seven assists himself in the Premier League last season.

Perhaps he’s been a victim of his own high standards over the past few years more than anything else. He’s been consistently brilliant since his 2017 arrival, and his recent slump in form could be a case of him failing to match the levels he’s previously hit over the past four-and-a-half years for a brief spell rather than anything more sinister.

Either way, he looked back to his best against a sorry Southampton side who couldn’t handle his marauding runs down the left-hand side.

He could hardly have picked a better time to put in his most impressive display of the season to silence his critics.

And his stunning performance was the perfect vindication for Klopp; who quashed any talk that Robertson could be ousted by Tsimikas despite the latter’s impressive performances this season prior to the match.
