Tom Kerridge weight loss: Chef lost 12st with easy changes to lifestyle & 'happy diet'

Tom will appear on BBC’s Remarkable Places to Eat tonight at 8pm. In the repeat episode, the chef will join host Fred Sirieix and chef-restaurateur Angela Hartnett as they taste delicious foods in the best restaurants Britain has to offer.

Tom lost a whopping 12 stone in just five years.

He did this by making changes to his lifestyle.

He began to eat more healthily and cut alcohol from his diet.

The 48-year-old also took up swimming, realising exercise can hugely contribute to weight loss.

Tom also credited the dopamine diet for his incredible weight loss, even releasing a recipe book based on his personal journey in 2017, entitled Tom Kerridge’s Dopamine Diet: My Low-carb, Stay-happy Way to Lose Weight.

The diet is based around the idea of increasing levels of the “happy diet”, which means it is easier to stick to the diet.

Tom realised being consistent and enjoying what he ate was what made shedding the pounds easier, telling the Mirror in 2017: “It’s impossible to lose weight and keep the weight off for good if you don’t enjoy what you’re eating.

“The NHS offers really sound advice about how to lose weight so I’ve taken this as the starting point for creating delicious low-calorie dishes people will want to eat every day.

“The cooking techniques mean there’s no compromise on flavour and you’re promised a generous plate of food! I’m hoping this will help more people to lose weight and still love what they eat.”

The dopamine diet consists of a range of different foods, including dairy foods such as milk, cheese, and yogurt, unprocessed meats such as beef, chicken, and turkey, fatty fish rich in omega 3, plenty of fruit and vegetables, nuts, and dark chocolate.

As for exercise, Tom not only took up swimming, but he also started running long distances to lose weight.

Over lockdown, the chef began to run 20 to 25k a week to stick to his ideal weight loss.

This is a habit the chef has stuck to beyond lockdown, and he often posts his progress on social media.

In August earlier this year, he wrote on Instagram: “Life is pretty busy at the moment and finding time to train is hard.

“So a midnight 18km on the @wattbike and then leg stretch on a pool table at home is as close as I’ve been able to get to the @themarlowclubofficial at the moment.”

The Marlow Club is a fitness centre Tom frequents in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, not far from his home.
