Newcastle are reportedly interested in making Real Madrid star Toni Kroos one of their first major signings on the back of their Saudi-led takeover.

The Magpies are ready to spend big money following the Saudi Arabia-backed consortium’s £305million takeover from Mike Ashley earlier this month.

Fans will expect the club to make big signings down the line and go from a team that is fighting relegation to challenging for major titles in future years.

El Nacional have now reported that they are considering a £25m move for Real Madrid midfielder Kroos.

It’s said that Newcastle would consider Kroos to be ‘vital to start the winning project’ at the club, as they look to end 66 years of pain without winning a major trophy.

The 31-year-old is one of the most decorated players in football today after a trophy-laden career for club and country.

Across spells at Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, he has won five league titles and been involved in four Champions League winning teams.

He also played a crucial part as Germany won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Newcastle’s last major trophy meanwhile came in 1955 when they won the FA Cup and they haven’t won a top-flight league title since 1927.

Kroos is contracted at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2023 and is still a regular in the team – despite only making three appearances so far this season due to an injury.

If Newcastle were able to sign the midfielder it would be a huge sign of intention with the German’s experience and success in the game.

It could be tough for them to sign Kroos with the Magpies sitting 19th in the Premier League table and currently in a fight to avoid relegation this season.

Newcastle are looking for a new manager after the sacking of Steve Bruce, with Graeme Jones taking charge of their clash against league leaders Chelsea on Saturday.

The Magpies who are now the wealthiest club in football, are expected to be busy during the January transfer window to boost their chances of avoiding the drop.
