‘Ridiculous’: Motorists slam supermarket after removing free parking offer – 'Bonkers!'

The Market Street branch in Huddersfield is in the centre of the city, with some drivers using the car park to shop and go into town.

An increasing number of supermarkets around the UK have implemented different parking measures, similar to Sainsbury’s.

Some supermarkets, including a Tesco in Lichfield, now have a minimum spend limit which requires drivers to spend £5 to receive up to three hours of free parking.

The shop installed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to monitor activity, with those staying less than 30 minutes would not be charged to allow pick up and drop off journeys.
