You will never guess who Cardi B’s new bestie is…
Penn Badgley, lead of Netflix’s lopsided love thriller “You,” landed a starring spot on the “WAP” rhymer’s verified Twitter account Wednesday, thanks to a fortuitous online exchange that’s resulted in their mind-blowing best friendship.
“OOOOMMFFFGGGGGG HE KNOWS ME!!,” Cardi, 29, penned to Twitter Monday, captioning a 2019 clip of Badgley, 34, applauding her effortless online authenticity.
“OMMMGGGG!!!!!!Yoooo like I’m famous famous,” continued the Grammy Award winner’s tweet.
In the 2-year-old footage — which Cardi has just apparently seen for the first time this week — Badgley, sitting alongside “You” co-star Shay Mitchell, said: “I really appreciate people who have this sort of totally second-nature relationship with [social media].”
And after admitting that his own attempts at connecting with social media followers had been “pathetic,” the leading man lauded the “Bodak Yellow” rapper’s innate knack for engaging digital audiences.
“Cardi B is a great example of that,” Badgley added. “She has such an authentic relationship [with social media]…Despite what many might judge as antics, I feel like she has an incredibly authentic relationship to that, and that’s why people like her so much.”
And Cardi’s delayed, albeit delighted response to his complement took the actor — best known for playing the role of a lovesick stalker — by lovely surprise.
“I-,” a stunned Badgley tweeted Tuesday, reposting Cardi’s tickled tweet about him from the previous day.
The pair’s reciprocal praise peaked when they each replaced their Twitter profile pictures with photos of one another. (So, Cardi’s photo is Badgley’s avatar, and vice versa).
And their silly cyber swap was almost too shocking for the “Up” singer. She tweeted a video meme of a kid who was shocked to see himself going viral online.
