Money Heist season 5 director pens heartfelt farewell to Professor ahead of part 2 release

After an emotional ending to season five part one, fans are eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated second half of Money Heist. However, as much as the rest of the show is desired, its release will be bittersweet because it’ll mark the ultimate ending of the series. Director Jesús Colmenar recently took to Instagram to pen an emotional farewell message to The Professor (played by Álvaro Morte)

The Spanish crime drama, originally called La Casa De Papel, took the world by storm after its release in 2017, as viewers were led to sympathise and root for the criminals.

It followed The Professor and eight recruits on their mission to carry out a grand heist and rob the Royal Mint of Spain.

The series explored the crew’s individual reasons for wanting to take part, as well as the rigorous training they received ahead of the heist.

In season one, alongside The Professor was Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), Helsinki (Darko Peric), Rio (Miguel Herran), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Berlin (Pedro Alonso), Nairobi (Alba Flores), Oslo (Roberto Garcia Ruiz) and Moscow (Paco Tous).

With Money Heist coming to an end and part two scheduled for release in December, the show’s director Jesús Colmenar wrote an emotional goodbye to the fan favourite.

After posting a behind-scenes snap of himself with The Professor, Jesús wrote a lengthy caption where he thanked the actor.

The English translation read: “I remember many times when we met, the casting, the nerves.

“The work of composing a character never seen before. Building the Professor with you, layer by layer, was one of the most special shared experiences of my career,” he shared.

The final scene of season four saw The Professor get caught by disgraced police detective Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri).

Although she was fired, she went out on her own and achieved something her peers and superiors weren’t able to accomplish which was to hunt down the mastermind.

However, season five saw him successfully talk his way out of an arrest, as Alicia was heavily pregnant and he helped her deliver the baby.

Colonel Luis Tamayo (Fernando Cayo) even held a press conference to lie and state Alicia was working for The Professor.

This lie worked well for the mastermind, as he was able to change Alicia’s mind about handing him to the police.

Alicia also stayed at the location, as she would be arrested if she was spotted outside by law enforcement, ironically needing The Professor.

The first half of season five also saw the emotional death of Tokyo, after she bravely decided to take one for the team and set off a hand grenade.

Fans will have to tune into part two to see if the crew will somehow evade the police and get away with robbing the Royal Mint of Spain – which will be released on Netflix on Friday, December 3.

Money Heist seasons 1- 5, part 1 are available to watch on Netflix.
