Michaela Strachan sparks outrage after slamming £2250 quarantine hotel as a ‘posh prison'

StagecraftNeil commented: “You’re lucky! Some children do not get that much to eat all day!”

Following the backlash, Michaela took to Twitter once again to “clarify” her comments.

The Really Wild Show star wrote: “I feel the urge to clarify. Of course there are disadvantaged people who would find this b/fast a feast. That’s not the point.

“My point is about value for money. My tweet was supposed to be tongue in cheek, but I really don’t think expecting value for money makes me spoilt?”

Others defended the presenter, with kimerincowley writing: “So many people here completely missing the point. This has nothing to do with unquestioned poverty – that is not an appropriate context. This is about a poorly thought out Covid protection plan being badly executed – and with a little light profiteering on the side.”

Autumnwatch fan BarneyWolSurrey commented: “You should have stayed in SA and done some remote inserts into AW – we’d love to see South African wildlife on the show!  But hang on in there – we’re delighted to see you.”

Monst73 added: “So many are missing the point here. It’s not about kids or poor people being happy with the food given. It’s about being ripped off. For the money being paid there should be a wide menu to choose from, not a cheap selection dumped on you. I’m not rich & I’m out of work.”

MarcFrance advised: “Think you should be naming and shaming the hotel. Just because your complying with the rules shouldn’t be a reason to money grab.”(sic)
