Biden’s approval rating slips by 7% in a month: 50% now disapprove of him amid disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and surge in COVID

A new poll finds President Joe Biden’s approval rating continuing to decline following the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, and amid an ongoing surge of COVID-19 cases.
In the Quinnipiac Poll conducted over the weekend and released Tuesday, Biden’s approval rating stood at 42 percent, with 50 percent disapproving of his overall job as president.
That’s a decline from early August, when 46 percent of Americans approved and 43 percent disapproved of the way Biden was handling his job.
‘If there ever was a honeymoon for President Biden, it is clearly over,’ said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy in a statement.
‘This is, with few exceptions, a poll full of troubling negatives… from overall job approval, to foreign policy, to the economy,’ said Malloy.

Predictable, the poll was divided along partisan lines, with 91 percent of Republicans disapproving of Biden’s job performance, compared with 52 percent of independents and just 7 percent of Democrats.
On foreign policy, Biden’s numbers were particularly negative, with 59 percent disapproving. In August, 42 percent approved and 44 percent disapproved of his handling of foreign policy.
Americans also gave Biden a negative score on his handling of his job as Commander in Chief of the U.S. military, with 40 percent approving and 55 percent disapproving.
On Afghanistan, the majority of Americans agreed with the decision to withdraw US troops, but most felt that the logistics of the withdrawal were handled poorly.
More than half of Americans, 54 percent, say they approve of Biden’s decision to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan. And 69 say it was the right to end the war in Afghanistan.
However, 65 percent gave Biden a negative score for the way he handled withdrawing all U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

More than 6 in 10 Americans, 62 percent, say they think American troops will have to return to Afghanistan to fight terrorism in the future.
On his handling of the economy, Biden receives a negative rating with 52 percent disapproving.
Biden’s numbers on his handling of the response to the coronavirus pandemic are mixed, with 48 percent approving and 49 percent disapproving.
This does mark a decline from August, when 53 percent approved of his handling of the coronavirus.
A majority of Americans (70 percent) say they are very dissatisfied (46 percent) or somewhat dissatisfied (24 percent) with the way things are going in the nation today.
