Piers Morgan doubles down on Emma Raducanu 'choke' moments before US Open final

Piers Morgan has taken aim at Emma Raducanu’s nerves once again just moments before the teenager takes to Arthur Ashe Stadium for the US Open final. The controversial former Good Morning Britain presenter was widely critical of Raducanu following her exit at Wimbledon a few months ago.

While most who watched Raducanu’s meteoric rise in England back in July in awe and focused on her impressive displays, Morgan drew heavy backlash when he criticised the teenager for pulling out of her fourth-round match.

Raducanu struggled with her breathing throughout the match against Ajla Tomljanovic before retiring.

Morgan took to social media with some harsh comments for Raducanu, echoing John McEnroe’s controversial view, which drew widespread criticism.

He said at the time: “Ms Raducuna’s a talented player but couldn’t handle the pressure & quit when she was losing badly. Not ‘brave’, just a shame.

“If I were her, I’d tell my fans to stop abusing McEnroe, & seek his advice on how to toughen up & become a champion like he was.”

But Raducanu has answered any critics she had with her impeccable run at this year’s US Open.

She’s already guaranteed to become the new British No 1 and is on the verge of history as she takes on Leylah Fernandez in the women’s singles final.

Sports stars and celebrities from all over Britain have been sending their well-wishes to Raducanu ahead of Saturday night’s final.
