Jadon Sancho is OUT of England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Poland

Jadon Sancho is ruled OUT of England’s World Cup qualifiers with Andorra and Poland with a ‘minor knock’… but the £73m winger is expected to be fit for Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Newcastle next week

  • Jadon Sancho had already picked up an injury prior to the clash with Hungary
  • But he has now been ruled out of England’s two remaining games this week
  • However, he is set to be fit for Manchester United’s next match with Newcastle

Jadon Sancho will not be involved in England’s forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Poland, the Football Association has announced.

The Manchester United forward missed Thursday’s 4-0 win in Hungary after sustaining what Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate described as a ‘minor knock’.

And a statement from the FA on Saturday said: ‘Following further assessment, the 21-year-old has returned to his club and is expected to recover in time for Manchester United’s fixture with Newcastle United on Saturday September 11.’

Sancho had picked up a ‘knock’ while with England which was assessed on prior to the victory in Budapest.

The forward will now not have the chance to add to his 22 England caps.

The last of those appearances came in the Euro 2020 final, where Sancho missed a crucial spot-kick during England’s penalty shootout defeat by Italy in July at Wembley.

He has featured in all three of Manchester United’s Premier League games this term following his £73million switch from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

The 21-year-old made his first United start on Sunday in the 1-0 win at Wolves but struggled to make an impact before being substituted in the 72nd minute.

Although the absence of Sancho will come as a blow to Southgate, England are in a good position in their World Cup qualifying group following four consecutive victories.

Thursday night’s win over Hungary means they now lead Poland by five points, with the top team going through to next year’s finals in Qatar automatically.
