The Handmaid's Tale: Serena Joy given freedom in Canada after secret role in Fred's death

As he and his wife Serena weren’t able to bear children, it was June’s role to carry their child so she was made to take part in a ritualised act of Ceremony – where Fred would rape her whilst Serena held her down.

Towards season four, June was able to escape the wrath of Gilead and become a free woman in Canada.

However, due to suffering physical, emotional, mental and sexual abuse in the state for seven years, she suffered from trauma and was overcome with her need for revenge.

Thankfully, by the time she arrived in Canada, Serena and Fred were also there but in custody awaiting trial for their crimes.
