Indonesian badminton pair roll around on floor in joy as they steal gold from China

Greysia Polli and Apriyani Rahayu claimed the first ever Olympic Gold for an unseeded badminton pair with an emphatic win in the women’s doubles final over China. The pair were so overcome with joy and emotion as they smashed China’s Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan in straight sets of 21-19 and 21-15 that they collapsed in hysterical tears on the floor in Tokyo.

Tensions mounted as the pair waited for a contested decision on whether a shot hit by China landed in or out of the court. 

The decision would mean gold medals for Indonesia if the shutllecock was out of play as China looked on appearing to already accept that the shot was indeed out.

After analysis, the shot was declared out of play and Indonesia had one gold.

The jubilant pair, totally overocome with emotion can then be seen collapsing and bursting into tears as they claim a hisotoric win over fierce rivals China.

The commentator said: “What a sensational victory in the women’s doubles discipline!

“The first unseeded pair to win Olympic Gold in the womens doubles

“The first players from Indonesia to win any medal in the womens doubles discipline.

“And now players from Indonesia have won gold medals in olympic competitions in all five disciplines!”

The pair can be seen screaming their heads off in joy as they fall into the arms of their coaches.

After celebrations the pair collected a gold medal to seal off a historic Olympic moment for the sport.
