Yesterday saw sensational 64s for Collin Morikawa, Emiliano Grillo and Jon Rahm, all three of whom came within inches of equalling Nick Faldo and Payne Stewart’s course record. There were fine 65s by the 36-hole leader Louis Oosthuizen, the defending champion Shane Lowry, 2011 redemption-story-in-waiting Dustin Johnson, and the amateur Matthias Schmid. Also there was a feelgood hole-in-one for the debutant Jonathan Thomson! Not bad, huh?
