Queen Elizabeth II has awarded the NHS the George’s Cross to pay tribute to their staff’s incredible dedication during the coronavirus pandemic on the 73rd anniversary of the institution. However, many NHS workers have rejected the 1 percent pay rise originally offered by the Government and the outcome of the review into the wage raise is set to be revealed this month. Helen Whately, the UK’s Minister for Social Care was told that NHS staff a more interested in receiving a pay increase over the George’s Cross.
Ms Whately said: “It really will not be very long until we can set out an announcement on NHS pay.
“It is just not something that I can do today.
“What I do think we can do today is thank Her Majesty the Queen for the recognition she is giving to the NHS and the NHS workforce by awarding the George’s Cross.
“Also, today is the 73rd birthday of the NHS.”
