New venue the Bungalow promises to bring Montauk to Manhattan

Jitney be damned — a new venue is promising to bring Montauk to Manhattan so city residents can skip the schlep.

Battery Park City’s Brookfield Place shopping center opened the Bungalow on its waterfront upper plaza, promising guests a “relaxing urban oasis inspired by the beachside retreats of Montauk,” 6sqft reported.

The free beach bar on the Hudson River may be just a subway ride away, but pledges to transport visitors to the less densely built-up waters of Long Island.

“We created the Bungalow to serve as a retreat for those seeking a public space in the city to relax and enjoy being around one another after so much time apart,” Sara Fay, Brookfield Properties senior vice president of marketing, told the publication. “The concept was inspired by the atmosphere of a summer day in Montauk, spent under the sun with a refreshing cocktail and delicious food.”

City dwellers are invited to enjoy specialty cocktails by the Tartinery Shack and food provided by Brookfield Place’s Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar, Olive’s and Umami Burger while doing their best to pretend that it’s not New Jersey but East Hampton across the way.

The two full-size bocce courts may be in lower Manhattan, but concentrate hard enough and they’ll feel like they’re in the yard behind your multi-million dollar villa. There’s even valet parking via parking.com.

For further distraction from their urban reality, the 250-person capacity lounge is scheduling bi-weekly events on Wednesdays and Fridays all summer.

“At the Bungalow on the Waterfront Plaza, the possibilities are as vast as the river it’s next to,” advertised a caption on an Instagram post promoting the space, recommending guests “snag a group of Adirondack chairs and catch up with friends over drinks.”

The Bungalow is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Sept. 26.
