Police swarmed a Georgia shopping mall Thursday amid reports of a shooting that sent shoppers scrambling and put stores on lockdown.
At least one person was wounded at the Southlake Mall in the Atlanta suburb of Morrow around 3 p.m., Fox affiliate WAGA-TV reported.
“Like 15 younger kids, they just started running, like I guess they were meeting up at the mall to come shoot or come fight,” one eyewitness told the station outside the mall.
“One of them just starting shooting inside the mall and the whole mall just started to disperse,” the witness said. “We started running back into the store to get to safety.”
Witnesses said the melee began inside a Macy’s department store at the mall and spilled out onto the parking lot.
Police from Clayton and Morrow converged on the mall on reports of the shooting, and cops later cordoned off a portion of the parking lot with police tape.
Several ambulances and fire department vehicles also rushed to the scene.
One person was brought out on a stretcher and loaded into a waiting ambulance, the station reported. No details on the extent of the person’s injuries were available.
Morrow Fire Chief Roger Swint confirmed that one person was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound, WXIA-TV reported.
Aerial footage from news choppers show the victim being wheeled to the ambulance.
Police have not released any details of the shooting.
