Matthew Perry CALLS OFF engagement to Molly Hurwitz just seven months after proposing

Matthew Perry has called off his engagement to Molly Hurwitz.

The 51-year-old Friends star, who proposed to the literary manager, 29, in November 2020, confirmed the shocking split in a statement to People on Tuesday.

‘Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them,’ said Perry, adding: ‘I wish Molly the best.’

Matthew and Molly were first romantically linked in 2018, with the actor gushing to the outlet last year that she is ‘the greatest woman on the face of the planet.’

Back in November, Perry joyously announced his engagement to People.

‘I decided to get engaged. Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time,’ he said at the time.

Although Perry was the one to announce their engagement, Hurwitz used social media last February to confirm their relationship to the world.

‘Second year being my valentine, but his first as an Instagram influencer. HVD to my favorite,’ she wrote to Matthew to celebrate the holiday, alongside a photograph of Matthew appearing to be sound asleep, while cradling a bright yellow smiley face balloon.

Prior to going ‘Instagram official,’ Perry and Hurwtiz were photographed being affectionate together outside a restaurant in West Hollywood in November 2019.

The couple also spent the 2019 Holiday season together in Los Angeles at Perry’s $35million Century City apartment in Los Angeles.

At the time, Hurwitz shared a photograph of herself and the 17 Again actor to Instagram, labeling him as her ‘boyfriend’ in the post’s caption.

She wrote: ‘According to my parents’ custody agreement, my mother was not allowed to have a Christmas tree… Fortunately, there’s no such agreement for a daughter’s boyfriend, so Hurwitz gets a treeeeeeee!!!’

Last May, the pair were reported to have endured a brief split that an insider described as ‘very amicable’ but that they had ‘both decided to go their separate ways.’

It is unclear when the pair reconciled and how closely that reconciliation occurred to their November 2020 engagement.

The news of his split from Hurwitz comes just weeks after Perry was outed for using the dating app Raya, where he allegedly asked a 19-year-old girl, ‘Am I as old as your dad?’ during one flirty exchange.

Perry can be seen in a video posted in May flirting with TikTok user @kittynichole – real name Kate Haralson – who claims they matched on the membership-only dating service in May last year.

Haralson, now 20, shared the footage of herself with the caption: ‘When you match w Matthew Perry as a joke on a dating app and he facetimes you and plays 20 questions with you.’

In the 16-second video, Perry is seen smiling as he asks his potential date, ‘Do you always play with your hair this much?’ to which she responds, giggling: ‘I guess so.’

Haralson, a personal assistant who says she was 19 when Perry first contacted her, told PageSix on Thursday that she wanted to show how older men in Hollywood are ‘taking advantage’ of younger women on dating apps.

‘A lot of people were saying I’m a bully and mean for posting this, and it made me feel kind of bad, but at the same time, I feel like a lot of guys in Hollywood are talking to all these young girls and it’s something that I think a lot of people should be aware of,’ she told the outlet.

Off the market: Perry, 51, is now engaged to fiancée Molly Hurwitz and but the pair were reportedly on a break last May

Haralson claims the FaceTime exchange happened in May last year, which is when Perry is said to have briefly split with his current fiancée Hurwitz, who he had been dating since 2018.

The LA-based PA said she had matched with other celebrities before but wouldn’t ‘ever talk to older guys’ though she thought talking to the Friends actor ‘would be funny.’

Haralson, who said she ‘never even really watched Friends,’ claims that Perry asked her at one point, ‘Am I as old as your dad?’

She alleges that she told Perry he was only about a year older than her father, which she claims he ‘laughed off’ and said she felt ‘uncomfortable’ at times during their call.

‘I don’t think he minded that,’ she claimed. ‘It kind of felt weird talking to someone my dad’s age and it just felt not right, especially when he knew how young I was.’

Halston also said that she was ‘inspired’ by Nivine Jay, who posted a video of Ben Affleck in early May and the pair are now in touch with each other.

No shame: The TikTok user had no qualms about sharing the private video with Friends star Matthew

However, Haralson said she decided to delete the video because she thinks Perry is a ‘nice guy’ and stated that they never met up in person, though he allegedly tried to.

‘Maybe one day you can get a COVID test and come over’ he is alleged to have told her.

While Haralson said she did it ‘more for the joke of it’ she added: ‘Honestly, it’s not really OK for these older guys to be talking to such young girls.’

Raya is often described as the celebrity version of Tinder, as the dating app requires a membership and a vetting process, which is enticing to big movie stars like Affleck.

The app – which launched in 2015 – describes itself as being ‘an exclusive dating and networking platform for people in creative industries.’

The private, membership-based, social network application first launched as a dating app, but then added features to promote professional networking for members of the entertainment industry.

Raya: The VERY exclusive dating app which approves only 8% of applications

Raya is often described as the celebrity version of Tinder, as the dating app requires a membership and a vetting process, which is enticing to big movie stars.

The app – which launched in 2015 by Mike McGuiness, who at the time was a partner at Los Angeles PR company the Co-Op Agency – describes itself as being ‘an exclusive dating and networking platform for people in creative industries.’

Users must be referred by an existing member and their application will then be voted on by a membership committee.

Only about 8% of applicants are reportedly approved.

In addition to subscription fees of $9.99 a month, the company also charges for sponsored placement of user requests.

Little is known about Raya, but in late 2016 it acquired video messaging startup Chime led by Jared Morgenstern, who was part of Facebook in the early days.

Morgenstern, who was Raya’s first investor, told TechCrunch: ‘Raya is a utility for introducing you to people who can change your life. Soho House uses physical space, we’re trying to use software.’

Other stars rumored to have used the service include Moby, Lily Allen, Cara Delevingne, Raven-Symoné, Tommy Lee, Whitney Cummings and Chelsea Handler.
