Ninth victim of San Jose mass shooting, Alex Ward Fritch, dies in hospital: officials

A ninth victim died in a hospital late Wednesday after being critically wounded in the mass shooting at a rail yard in San Jose, California, officials told local media.

Hours after the coroner’s office identified the initial eight victims, it revealed that Alex Ward Fritch, 49, had also died in the hospital where he was being treated, CBS San Francisco said.

The other victims were revealed as Paul Megia; Taptejdeep Singh; Adrian Balleza; Jose Hernandez; Timothy Romo; Michael Rudometkin; Abdolvahab Alaghmandan and Lars Lane.

Gunman Samuel Cassidy, 57, turned his gun on himself after his early-morning slaughter at San Jose’s VTA Light Rail Facility, authorities said.

Cassidy had also worked at the facility, which VTA spokesperson Stacey Handler Ross told San Jose Spotlight was like “a family.”

“It’s clear the victims and all the colleagues knew the shooter well,” Mayor Sam Liccardo said.
