Dead man is found inside DINOSAUR statue in Spain ‘after he dropped his phone into papier-mâché Stegosaurus then fell inside as he tried to reach in and grab it’

The body of a man has been found inside a dinosaur statue in a Barcelona suburb. 

Police are investigating the death of the 39-year-old who reportedly fell into the statue while trying to retrieve a mobile phone dropped inside the papier-mâché figure.

On Saturday morning, a man and his son out playing in the area noticed a strange smell coming from the statue, which stands in the suburb of Santa Coloma de Gramenet outside the Cubic Building.

The man alerted authorities after spotting the body through a crack in the Stegosaurus’ leg.

Three teams of firefighters were called to the scene after the man’s body was discovered, cutting the dinosaur’s leg open and deploying a crane to retrieve the corpse.  

Local media reported that the unnamed man had become trapped upside down  after falling into the hollow statue while trying to reach a phone he had dropped inside. 

Police are awaiting autopsy results and have not confirmed the man’s cause of death or how he came to be inside the statue.  

The statue, which was erected to advertise an old cinema, has been removed.
