BTS drops new track ‘Butter’ ahead of Billboard Music Awards performance

Buttah-voiced like Barbra Streisand, they ain’t.

But the boys of BTS are still capable of pulling off a summer-ready smoothie with their new single, “Butter.”

The latest single from the K-pop sensations, released on Friday, is another dose of fizzy fun from the South Korean septet.

Even if you forget about it as soon as the 2 minutes and 45 seconds are over. (Can these guys even make a song over 3 minutes long?)

“Smooth like butter/Like a criminal undercover/Gon’ pop like trouble/Breakin’ into your heart like that,” they boast in their best attempt at some hip-hop swag.

But, of course, the beauty — and global appeal — of BTS is that they are the furthest thing from “trouble,” no matter how much hip-hop posturing they may strike.

And, hey, who can blame them for so obviously going for a summer jam right before Memorial Day — and their performance at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards this weekend?

Following the success of their first English-only single, “Dynamite,” which reached No. 1 last year, BTS is back to court the US market with this track.

And while it hardly breaks any new ground for the boy band, it’s enough of a bop to keep them grooving through many a pool, backyard and rooftop hang near you this summer.

Meanwhile, the tune’s colorful, official music video is spreading fast, sliding right past 89 million views by mid-afternoon Friday.

And as they say in the “Butter” lyrics, the heartbreaking gang of seven definitely “got that superstar glow” as they boogie and “flirt” through a succession of dance sequences that left hearts “pumping” and fans melting like, well, butter.

The group is everywhere these days — including working with McDonald’s on a “BTS meal,” reportedly collaborating with 27-year-old “Yummy” singer Justin Bieber and making history at the 2021 Grammys.

The worldwide phenomenon will perform “Butter” for the first time at the Billboard Music Awards, where they have four nominations. The event — hosted by Nick Jonas and airing at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 23, on NBC — will feature other musical guests including The Weeknd, Doja Cat, SZA, AJR, Bad Bunny and Karol G, DJ Khaled featuring H.E.R. and Migos, Duran Duran, Glass Animals, Twenty One Pilots, and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis with Sounds of Blackness featuring Ann Nesby. In addition, singer Pink is slated to receive the music brand’s Icon Award, and Alicia Keys will mark the 20th anniversary of her debut album, “Songs in A Minor.”
