Rafael Nadal takes big step towards Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer GOAT claim – Rusedski

Greg Rusedski thinks that the head-to-head record between the top players could play a big part in the greatest of all-time debate and Rafael Nadal has taken a big step to close down his record against Novak Djokovic.

Nadal is expected to pull away from the Grand Slam record he shares with Roger Federer by winning the French Open next month.

But it is not only the major tournament trophies by which the Big Three will be judged.

Djokovic held a 29-27 advantage over Nadal from the 56 previous times they had met on the ATP Tour.

That was until Nadal got the better of the world No 1 in the Italian Open final to claim his 10th title in Rome.

And Rusedski reckons that will help the Spaniard stake a claim to go down as the GOAT,

“We talk about the rivalry between Djokovic and Nadal, well he has just come one step closer, 29-28, so this was a big moment for him,” Rusedski said on Amazon Prime.

“He has that hunger and desire and that GOAT title that the Big Three are going for every match that more special.

“Whether you’re winning on clay, hard courts or grass.”

After the win was secured Nadal told Amazon Prime: “I was lucky at some moments, especially against Shapo (Denis Shapovalov).

“I think I played a good tournament. I have been playing better and better, I have been finding my rhythm on clay. I had a very positive win and I am very happy.

“It is amazing, no? I have this trophy in my hands for the 10th time.

“[It is] something impossible to happen, but it happened so I am super happy. I can’t thank enough all the fans and all the supporters. I have the trophy and this year is just amazing.”
