Professional golfer Dan Bowling has been arrested for sexting with an undercover police officer he allegedly believed was a 15-year-old girl.

The Canadian sportsman, 26, was taken into custody in Orlando on Thursday after he tried to meet up with the ‘teen’ in person.

He was placed in handcuffs when he realized that the minor did not exist and that he had actually been conversing with an undercover detective.

Bowling is now facing charges of obscene communication, traveling to meet with a minor and attempted lewd and lascivious molestation, according to People.

Investigators allege that Bowling contacted the decoy on the app AdChat early last month.

The conversation ‘turned sexual in nature within the first 24 hours and intensified quickly’, police said.

Bowling was arrested without incident and it is currently unclear whether he has obtained a lawyer.

Police have described him as a ‘dangerous online predator’.

‘Unfortunately, there are potentially hundreds of predators like Mr. Bowling online,’ Jennifer Wing, from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, told People.

‘I hope news of today’s arrest encourages parents to be more proactive in monitoring their children’s lives online.’

According to Yahoo Sports, Bowling has not competed professionally since 2016.

Additionally, he is not in the Official World Golf Rankings.

However, his Instagram is filled with golf snaps, and his bio reads: ‘Pro golfer travelling PGA Tour events one Monday at a time’.

Last week, he shared a video which showed him out on the links beneath a caption that read: ‘Down in North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Monday qualifying. Been putting in the work last few weeks with my guys.’
