CDC announces updated COVID-19 mask guidelines

The CDC on Tuesday announced eased guidelines involving mask-wearing amid COVID-19 — saying Americans who are fully vaccinated don’t need them anymore for outdoor activities when alone or with household members.

That means that people who have received both doses of the Pfizer and Moderna immunizations or the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine can safely be outdoors without masks under fewer conditions and gather indoors in small groups with other fully vaccinated people maskless.

But even those who are fully vaccinated should wear masks in large outdoor gatherings where social-distancing can be an issue, the agency said.
