Production designer Martin Childs added: “We painted that staircase blood red especially for the occasion.
“And then Ben had the brilliant idea as well of doing a counterpoint to that staircase of doing a sort of much, much grander version of it when she gets to the palace, which becomes sort of when she’s descending, it becomes kind of state of mind.”
“It’s really symbolic in that moment,” Ben explained.
“Because she sort of it feels like it’s the last time she’s in saying goodbye to her friends, the comfort of her of her apartment, that life that she had before almost the kind of severing of this umbilical cord as she goes down that staircases and then sort of handed over to them.
“And she’s leaving one life and stepping into another we see her change through this and that is down to a Emma Corrin’s fantastic acting.”
