A gunman who barricaded himself inside a Connecticut building for hours on Tuesday was later found dead inside, police said.
The suspect fired numerous rounds from an upper floor of a building on Main Street in Branford, even as officers arrived at the scene shortly after noon, according to police.
Responding officers were pinned down until armored vehicles arrived, authorities said.
One person was shot in the hail of bullets. The victim was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.
Police surrounded the building, which houses a hair salon on the first floor, for over four hours.
Several nearby businesses were evacuated amid the mayhem.
Later Tuesday, police said the suspect was found dead inside the building, which they deemed secure.
