BBC weather presenter Tomasz Schafernaker, 42, couldn’t resist aiming a cheeky swipe at former BBC News presenter Simon McCoy, 59, following his departure from the newsroom. It comes after the broadcaster announced he was stepping down from his role after 17 years and will be joining GB News which is set to launch later this year.
Viewers may recall a hilarious on-air blunder between Tomasz and Simon which saw the weather presenter make a rude gesture to his colleague.
The meteorologist was spotted putting up his middle finger at the news presenter while on camera.
The BBC weather star has since caused a stir on Twitter after he said goodbye to Simon in a cheeky tribute.
In view of his 82,000 followers, Tomasz took the opportunity to share the video as he reminisced over the pair’s on-screen banter.

He penned: “Simon @BBCSimonMcCoy I salute you one more time…and I. Am.Going. To. Miss. You…Good luck!”
Tomasz accompanied the post with a heartfelt message from the BBC’s Head of News Sam Taylor.
His statement read: “Sharp, funny & a great colleague – it has been a delight to have @BBCSimonMcCoy at the helm of the BBC News Channel & News at One. We’ll miss his one-liners, pregnant pauses & commitment to breaking news in every form, & wish him the very best for the future.”
Viewers flocked to comment on Tomasz’s post, as many people recalled the memorable blunder.
The finger fail incident took place over a decade ago and still sparks hysterics among viewers.
Tomasz’ embarrassing gaffe came as newsreader Simon joked: “Now we will have the weather forecast in a minute and it will be 100 per cent accurate…I have just seen Tomasz preparing for it, so I am not entirely sure, oh.”
At that point the camera caught the weather presenter raising a finger at Simon.
The newsreader, sitting next to Fiona Armstrong, tried to stop smiling then added: “Every now and then there is one mistake and that was it.”
The BBC issued an apology at the time of the on-air blunder which has gone down in television history.
Simon joined the BBC in 2004, first starring on BBC Breakfast and BBC News 24.
He will be moving to the new channel GB News to present an afternoon show, which is set to rival Sky News and BBC News.
His departure was announced on social media after a colleague shared the news of Simon’s final day yesterday.
