Although this week Zack Snyder’s Justice League returned Cavill to screens as Superman, his future has not been set in stone just yet. Warner Bros and DC Comics have been very vague on what they are doing with their film series – the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) – and have instead focussed on beginning a new line of films, including The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson and Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix. The future of the series may have had some light shone on it following a huge Reddit expose from an apparent writer from Warner.
Reddit user GreenBallerina recently wrote a lengthy post about the next steps of the Superman film series.
The user claimed to be a “writer currently optioned” on a separate Warner project, who wanted to reveal more info about the rumoured first on-screen Black Superman.
The last official news fans received about the Superman films was that screenwriter Ta-Nehisi Coates had been brought on to pen the next adventure for the Man of Steel under Star Wars director JJ Abrams.
The leaker said Coates and Abrams’ script is not yet finished, but it was indeed being written with a Black actor in mind.

The leaker said: “As it was pitched, this character will exist in the same Universe as the likes of Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Won’t be a one off like Joker or The Batman.”
Unfortunately for Man of Steel and Batman V Superman fans, the leaker says Cavill’s time in the film series is still being discussed.
They said: “Heard nothing about Clark Kent being involved in the Coates/Abrams pitch. But Cavill’s Superman would be the inspiration for the other Kryptonians engaging the world.
“Whether that Superman is Cavill or not, I have no clue. The only thing I heard was that Cavill was in negotiations last Spring. Of course that’s way before this new Superman film was pitched so I don’t know what role his Superman would have played.”
Express.co.uk has contacted Warner Bros to comment on this story.
When The Hollywood Reporter broke the news about the Superman reboot, Coates said: “To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros, DC Films and Bad Robot is an honour.
“I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.” (sic)
Abrams also made a statement, saying: “There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros for the opportunity.”
This apparent plan for the future of Superman follows the interview WarnerMedia Studios CEO Ann Sarnoff gave about the next step for Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Sarnoff explained there were currently no plans to continue with Snyder’s vision of the superhero franchise.
Speaking about fans calling for Justice League 2, she told Variety: “I appreciate that they love Zack’s work and we are very thankful for his many contributions to DC.
“We’re just so happy that he could bring his cut of the Justice League to life because that wasn’t in the plan until about a year ago. With that comes the completion of his trilogy.
“We’re very happy we’ve done this, but we’re very excited about the plans we have for all the multi-dimensional DC characters that are being developed right now.”
Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Man of Steel are available to watch on NOW.
