Tom Jones details memory of being a 'tearaway' youth who went 'too far' in bad situations

He recently said of the musician: “Bobby came to me in Vegas in the 1970s, and said, ‘I’ve got this song, and I think you’ve got the voice for it’.”

Recalling his reaction, he told The Telegraph: “I said ‘It’s great, but I’m only in my 30s. I’m not old enough to sing it yet!’

“But I kept hold of that demo and thought now’s the time. I think more about things as I get older, and I like songs that reflect that.”

Tom went on to speak of the time he was told he would not make it in the music industry as he was “too macho”.

Curly-haired Tom’s unique style singing rhythm and blues was knocked back by a team in London who said: “That’s not going to work any more.”
