Trevor Peacock dead: Vicar of Dibley's Jim Trott actor dies aged 89

Treavor Peacok, who is best known for his portrayal of Jim Trott in The Vicar of Dibley has died at the age of 89. The news of his death was confirmed by his agent and family this morning.

Actor, screenwriter and songwriter Trevor has been confirmed to have passed away.

Fans will likely know him best from his hilarious performance as Jim in the BBC comedy and is iconic “no, no, no, yes” catchphrase.

The news of his death was announced on March 9 after his family confirmed he had died from a “dementia-related illness”.

A statement from his family read: “Trevor Peacock, actor, writer and song-writer, died aged 89 on the morning of Mar 8 from a dementia-related illness.”

Trevor also appeared in several successful films, including Hamlet, Fred Claus and Quartet.

On the stage, he had starred in productions of Waiting For Godot, Death of a Salesman and The Merry Wives of Windsor.

Alongside his successful acting career, the star was also a talented songwriter.

Some of the hits he wrote include for The Vernons Girls and the musical Passion Flower Hotel.

Trevor’s death follows the death of several of his other The Vicar of Dibley co-stars.

Owen Newitt star Roger Lloyd-Pack died in 2014 while Alice actor Emma Chambers and Frank star John Bluthal both passed away in 2018.

Following the news of his death, tributes have begun to pour in for the late star.

Co-star Dawn French tweeted: “Night Trev. I love you.”

Actor George Rainsford wrote on Twitter: “Ah man I loved Trevor Peacock. Remember him as Giles Corey in the @TheRSC’s #TheCrucible and scene-stealing with his line, “A fart on Thomas Putnam!”

“Achieving both pathos and comedy in so few words. #RIPTrevorPeacock”

A statement from GOLD on Twitter read: “We are all saddened to learn that Trevor Peacock, who played Jim Trott so brilliantly in The Vicar of Dibley has passed away at the age of 89. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

While the BBC Press Office wrote: “We’re saddened to hear of the death of actor Trevor Peacock.”
