Thomas Tuchel berates compatriot Timo Werner in German during Chelsea’s win over Everton by criticising the forward’s positioning as Blues boss quizzes why he ‘doesn’t understand’ his instructions

Thomas Tuchel was left baffled by Timo Werner’s positional sense during Chelsea’s win over Everton on Monday, after microphones picked up his touchline instructions at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues cruised to a 2-0 victory in the Premier League clash and were rarely troubled by their rivals for a Champions League spot on Monday night.
Yet Tuchel still felt the need to criticise members of his first team, including his German compatriot Timo Werner in the 26th minute while the scores were still goalless.

The forward was playing on the left side of the Blues attack but it appeared to be going against Tuchel’s instructions who wanted him to feature on the opposite flank.
TV microphones picked up Tuchel berating the £53million summer signing in German on the touchline.
Reported translations claim he said: ‘Timo, how long are you staying on the left? You’re playing on the right! The last 15 mins you’ve only been on the left! Don’t you understand?’

The forward departed as a late substitute for Christian Pulisic before greeting Tuchel
It didn’t take long for the Blues to respond to any tactical tweaks that were made, with a goal from the left coming just six minutes later when Kai Havertz’s flick from a Marcos Alonso cross being diverted by Everton’s Ben Godfrey into his own goal to give the home side the lead.
Werner was a lively presence in the Blues attack throughout the game but despite getting into numerous goal scoring positions was constantly denied by smart stops from Toffees stopper Jordan Pickford
The forward departed as a substitute in the final minute making way for Christian Pulisic before being greeted by a warm handshake from Tuchel, suggesting his earlier rant was nothing more than a minor transgression.

But the Blues were inspired by Kai Havertz (back left) who played a key role in both goals
However it was Jorginho who doubled the lead from the penalty spot with 25 minutes to play after the impressive Kai Havertz was brought down in the penalty box by Pickford.
It appears few of Tuchel’s men are struggling with his instructions overall as the Blues remain unbeaten in his 11 games in charge after the former Paris Saint-Germain boss took over from the sacked Frank Lampard in January.
Chelsea are now in control of the top four race following the win as they extended their advantage over fifth place Everton to four points having played a game more.
