Karen Hauer: Strictly pro admits it took a year to 'let go' of ex husband Kevin Clifton

Karen Hauer, 38, has shared how it took a while to “let go” of the deep love she felt for her ex-husband Kevin Clifton, 38, after they went their separate ways three years ago. The Strictly Come Dancing professional attended therapy sessions following their marriage split, in order to “understand” what it is she would like from a relationship going forward.

Opening up on how in the year following her break-up from Kevin, Karen tried to keep herself busy at all times to stop herself from reflecting on her feelings.

She said: “I wasn’t giving myself time to recover, to heal, to understand, why I… I couldn’t deal with it.”

The dancer struggled to get over how she felt for Kevin and decided to seek professional help.

She continued: “I couldn’t let go of this love that I had, and the best thing I did was get therapy, and started to understand myself, and understand what I want from a relationship.”

Karen is single following her break-up from former boyfriend David Webb, after the coronavirus pandemic made it difficult to go on dates.

She continued: “I’m single. A date here and there. I don’t even know how can you date right now? You can’t, but I am trying to find out about myself.

“I’m not trying to expect anything from people. I just have standards now. I have standards about what I want for myself,” she finished while speaking on The Divorce Club podcast with Samantha Baines.

The Strictly Come Dancing stars were married for three years before they called it quits.

After the pair split they continued to work on Strictly together, where the former couple felt the public’s glare on their relationship.

However, despite the difficulty of a break-up in the public eye, Karen shared she felt “stronger” because of it.

She went on: “Huge lessons for me. Because of that break-up and what I had to go through emotionally, physically work-wise and in the public eye – it made me stronger, and it made me realise what I really need to work on, and that was me.

“I had to work with him for two, three years after we got separated and it was hard because you can see how much love you have for one another, and the respect.”
