A Discovery of Witches is based on Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy, which follows an American professor named Diana Bishop whose world turns upside down when she discovers a magical text in Oxford’s Bodleian Library. Ashmole 782 triggers Diana’s own latent magical powers and attracts the attention of vampire Matthew Clairmont. Matthew and Diana form an unlikely friendship that soon becomes a hot and heavy romance. On the run from other vampires and witches, the pair harness Diana’s abilities to travel back to 1590. There, they hope to find Ashmole 782 in the past. Which is what brings them to Bohemia in A Discovery of Witches Season 2 Episode 7.
