Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva has reassured fans that he will come back stronger from injury as manager Thomas Tuchel revealed he was unlikely to play on the weekend.

The Brazilian was forced off the pitch in the first half of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Spurs and with what appeared to be a hamstring injury after stretching for the ball.

Timescales on his return have yet to be confirmed but Silva has been a central figure since Thomas Tuchel took over the Blues.

He has overseen three consecutive clean sheets since the German manager’s arrival as the most experienced of the three central defenders that Tuchel’s system deploys.

But Silva sought to reassure fans on Instagram that he is in treatment and eager to return as soon as possible.

The 36-year-old posted a photo of his heavily-strapped right leg with his club shorts on, and a message explaining that such things happen in football.

The Brazilian was unable to continue but his side held on for a deserved 1-0 win over Spurs

‘Injuries are part of our profession, now treating and returning stronger!’ read the post, written in his native Portuguese.

But while Silva appears to be maintaining a positive outlook, Tuchel said that the defender would most probably miss out on Sunday’s trip to Sheffield United.

‘We have to wait. It’s worrying because it’s a muscle injury,’ Tuchel said after the Tottenham match.

‘I think for Sunday he is a big doubt.”
