Lucas (played by Glen Wallace) made his first appearance on the cobbles during Friday’s instalment of Coronation Street as someone connected to Carla Connor (Alison King). The newcomer to the ITV soap seemed keen to reignite a diminished spark he once had with the Underworld Factory owner but with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) still playing on her mind, she was left with a dilemma. It might do her well to stay away from the businessman if it is discovered he in fact killed his own girlfriend to give him the freedom to pursue Carla.
It was explained the pair had met when Carla left Weatherfield shortly after marrying Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) five years ago.
After her affair with Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) was exposed, the businesswoman decided to visit Devon.
This was where she first came into contact with Lucas but he was someone else’s partner at the time, meaning the pair could only ever be friends.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other publications, the actor who plays the newcomer explained: “Lucas looks at [her] like a soulmate.

“Someone who he had an instant connection with,” he said, with viewers seeing the chemistry between the pair during the latest edition of the weeknight serial drama.

“They had a moment and [the connection] was deep,” Glen continued, before describing his alter-ego in a bit more depth by adding: “He’s a very successful businessman and he’s the alpha male.
“He’s very proactive and I think this move up to Manchester and going to meet Carla, he’s very decisive and there are no malicious undertones.
“It’s just he’s no longer willing to miss out on life’s opportunities and I think he sees Carla as one of life’s opportunities he’s not going to let go.”
However, this comes following the loss of his girlfriend as the actor explains was the result of her own struggles with addiction.
“Lucas’ girlfriend Lucy passed away of a drug’s overdose,” Glen explained, referring to why his character can relate to Carla, who has had to watch Peter battled with alcoholism.
“I think he’s coming from experience. There are parallels between her relationship with Peter and Lucas’ with Lucy. He’s gone through that relationship of being that caring partner and looking after someone who is addicted to something.
“And he looks back and thinks he wasted his life and he really doesn’t want Carla to do the same thing,” the newcomer added.
Hinting at his character’s romantic spark with Carla which he can now act on, the actor said: “Carla might have had her eye turned before but what he’s saying is, ‘I’ve been there’.”

“‘I know what it’s like. I can help you through it. I can recognise the signals. I don’t want you to do what I did’,” Glen added.
“In either business or personal life, I don’t think he takes no for an answer. I think he can see a real future with Carla.
“He can see it and he knows it,” the actor continued, but does this suggest he could have committed some heinous crimes before arriving in Weatherfield to ensure he was a free man?
Lucy was a drug addict and although she died of an overdose, there could have been some foul play as to how she got her hands of the lethal narcotics.
It could be Lucas was the one who encouraged her to take the fateful dose which he knew would be enough to kill her.
As his late girlfriend was a known addict, he would have the perfect cover story to ensure the blame was never pointed his way.
With his partner out the way, this would allow the newcomer to move to Manchester and track down the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
However, if Carla were to discover the lengths he had gone to in order to be with her, could she rethink ever considering pursuing something with him?
Coronation Street continues Monday at 7:30pm on ITV.
