The first-ever Bachelorette Trista Sutter helped formulate a ‘medical strategy’ to help her husband Ryan, whom she met and became engaged to while on the reality TV show.
The 46-year-old firefighter has endured a mysterious illness for over five months, he explained on his Instagram page at the beginning of December.
In a new Instagram post this Tuesday he shared how his loved ones including Trista have helped him through the ordeal as he wrote: ‘Resiliency is not a solo act.’

Trista has a master’s in physical therapy, and while she was moonlighting as a Miami Heat dancer she was also a pediatric physical therapist at a local children’s hospital.
Alongside a photo album documenting his health situation Ryan wrote: ‘My wife went on a mission, developing a medical strategy and path towards hopeful answers while at the same time leaving daily reminder notes to keep my spirits up.’
He included a photo of several of the notes, with sweet messages such as, ‘Thinking of you in my dreams,’ and ‘I’m the lucky one,’ written on them.
‘My family has rallied behind me, my friends have shown tremendous support and my colleagues a high degree of understanding and patience. For all of this I am grateful,’ wrote Ryan, who shares two children with Trista.

The firefighter, who lives in Avon, Colorado, told his Instagram followers that he always prided himself on his ‘self-reliance’ and his refusal to ever ‘give up, give in or give off any sign of weakness.’
He revealed: ‘Though I had breakdowns, few ever saw them. Mostly I internalized difficulty and distracted myself from its presence through physical exertion.’
However his recent health downturn showed him that ‘Sometimes it is necessary to let others in, to ask for help and to accept it.’
At the beginning of this month he explained: ‘In February I started my fire career over and began an 18 week fire academy. Towards the end of that process I felt more and more worn out and began feeling occasional “flu like” symptoms.’

Ryan clarified: ‘I was tested for COVID multiple times but never tested positive. I completed the academy and believed/hoped I would begin to recover and feel better. It’s been five months now and, if anything, I feel worse.’
He described a ‘battery of symptoms’ such as ‘fatigue – sometimes almost paralyzing, deep body and muscle aches, fevers, night sweats, full body itching with no rash, headaches, neck and throat swelling, congestion, light headedness, nausea, and just general all around not feeling good.’
However in a demonstration of his fortitude he pointed out he is ‘functional and continue to work my regular fire schedule’ despite feeling unwell.
